Sa'adu Zungur University SRC issues urgent security notice to students

Henry 3 weeks ago

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Sa'adu Zungur University wishes to bring to the attention of all students a recent and serious security incident that occurred around Villa Lodge at approximately 8:00 PM.

A female student, Maryam Yakeen, a 200-level student of Bio-Education, was reportedly attacked and severely injured by an unidentified individual. The situation was critical, and without prompt intervention, it could have resulted in a tragic outcome. Thankfully, urgent assistance was rendered in time.

We also extend our heartfelt prayers to her, wishing her a quick recovery, ease in her condition, and pray that Almighty God protects her from any future harm.

In light of this disturbing incident, we strongly urge all students to be extremely cautious and vigilant, especially as we approach the end of examinations. It has been observed that periods with fewer students on campus can sometimes be exploited, putting those remaining at greater risk.

Students are therefore advised to:

Be mindful of their movements, particularly during evening hours

Avoid isolated or poorly lit areas

Stay alert and prioritize personal safety at all times

Safeguard their belongings and report any suspicious activity immediately

We also sincerely appreciate the students who provided immediate assistance to the victim before the arrival of SRC officials, as well as the Dean, Students’ Affairs for his swift intervention in ensuring that the student received proper care.

Be informed that investigations into this incident are ongoing, and anyone found to be involved will be dealt with accordingly and face appropriate disciplinary and legal action.

Let us all remain cautious and look out for one another.
