The Students' Representative Council (SRC) of Gombe State University has announced the arrest of an individual suspected of defrauding fresh students through a fraudulent WhatsApp group.

In an official statement released by the council and signed by Public Relations Officer Babangida Alhaji Jingi (Malala), the SRC confirmed that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect created a WhatsApp platform to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting students under false pretenses.

The announcement, issued under the authority of the President, Amb. Abubakar Aminu Muhammad (Alaa), calls on all affected students to come forward with evidence. Victims are requested to forward payment receipts and a brief description of the incident to the Public Relations Officer via WhatsApp for proper documentation and verification.

The SRC has assured the student community that necessary measures are being taken to ensure that all verified payments are refunded accordingly.

" The SRC remains firmly committed to protecting the interests and welfare of all students and will continue to take decisive action against any form of exploitation," the statement read.

The council's leadership, including Secretary General Bashir Adamu Hassan, alongside other executive members, endorsed the announcement, reaffirming their dedication to student welfare and justice.
