UNICAL management reacts to the protest by students from the department of Nursing Science

Thomas 2 months ago

Information reaching Management is that on Wednesday, 25th February, 2026, some students from the Department of Nursing Science who were admitted during the 2024/2025 Academic Session were at the Vice-Chancellor’s Block with placards to protest the blockage of their individual portals. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Ekatte Enang addressed the students on behalf of Management, explaining in details the issues which warranted the blockage of the portal. The students were also informed that the action of Management was based on Senate decision on some admissions irregularities in the University.

However, on Friday, 27th February, 2026, the same group of students gathered again, protesting on the same issue despite the information already transmitted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

Management frowns at this uncultured attitude which is unbecoming of students in any higher Institution. Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong has indicated that his administration has zero tolerance for any form of irregularities in admission in the University. Management has therefore directed that any further action by the students which will result in the disruption of peace in the University will attract severe disciplinary action as embedded in the University of Calabar Students’ Handbook, Section 5.12.7 on “Illegal Gatherings in the University of Calabar.”
