TASFUED SUG condemns recent robbery attacks, issues 72-hrs ultimatum for urgent security action

The leadership of the Tai Solarin Federal University of Education Students’ Union (TASFUEDSU) strongly condemns the recent spate of robbery attacks targeting students within and around the university community.

The safety and well-being of our students remain paramount and non-negotiable. It is unacceptable that students, in pursuit of academic excellence, are being subjected to fear, trauma, and the loss of their personal belongings due to the activities of criminal elements.

The Students’ Union unequivocally states that it will not remain passive in the face of these disturbing developments. The persistence of these incidents is deeply alarming, and the patience of the student body has been stretched to its limit. We refuse to allow insecurity to become a norm within our community.

In view of this, we issue a 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian Police Force, local vigilante groups, and all relevant security agencies to take decisive action by apprehending those responsible for these criminal acts and implementing effective, lasting security measures to prevent further occurrences.

We demand an immediate reinforcement of security presence through intensified patrols in student-populated areas and other identified vulnerable locations. Security agencies must adopt proactive, intelligence-driven strategies aimed at dismantling these criminal networks and restoring confidence within the student community.

Furthermore, we call on the appropriate authorities to prioritize the protection of lives and property by ensuring that the university environment and its surrounding communities are secured and no longer serve as safe havens for criminal elements.

We urge all students to remain calm but highly vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the Students’ Union or the nearest security agency.

The leadership of TASFUEDSU is actively engaging with the university management and relevant security stakeholders to ensure that urgent and sustainable measures are implemented. We remain resolute in our commitment to securing a safe and conducive environment for all students.

We will not fold our arms while our students are subjected to insecurity. Immediate action must be taken.
