The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has stated that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have no business in the selection process of a new Vice-Chancellor of the University.

This is coming after SSANU and NASU members protested against the ongoing VC selection process of appointing the 13th Vice-Chancellor of the institution onΒ October 28.Β The Senate made this declaration after its emergency meeting on Wednesday, condemning the action of the union members.

The Senate further disclosed that the University management will discipline union members who participated in the protests.

The race to the selection of a new Vice-Chancellor who will succeed the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka whose tenure ends in November has 18 professors jostling for the office.
