UNEC Students' Union declares Campus-Wide Sanitation Drive

Nura 1 month ago

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) has officially launched a comprehensive campus clean-up initiative scheduled for Saturday, 28th March 2026. The exercise is set to run from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Describing the event as more than a standard sanitation exercise, the SUG has framed the initiative as a collective movement. The union aims to foster a cleaner, healthier learning environment while encouraging students to connect and take active ownership of their campus community.

The clean-up is open to all students, as well as business owners and shop operators residing within the campus. To facilitate full participation, the union has confirmed that all necessary equipment—including rakes, shovels, gloves, and ESWAMA-approved disposal bags—will be provided to volunteers.

In conjunction with the clean-up, the SUG has issued a formal mandate for all campus vendors and shop owners. Effective 28th March 2026, the use of ESWAMA-approved bags for waste disposal is compulsory. The union has warned that failure to comply with this new directive will result in strict sanctions.

Emphasizing the link between environmental hygiene and academic performance, the SUG leadership is urging the entire community to take collective responsibility. The union’s message remains clear: "This is your campus. This is your responsibility."

Students and residents are encouraged to arrive promptly at 6:00 AM to participate in this community effort.
