UNICAL SUG announces new date for commencement of Students' Week
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Students’ Union Government (SUG) has officially announced the commencement of the eagerly awaited 2026 Students’ Week. In a recent internal memorandum, the SUG Vice President, Hon. Bernice Ekong, shared important updates approved by the school management.
A significant change for this year’s event is a revised schedule. The program will now kick off on Thursday, 22nd January, 2026, rather than the previously communicated dates. Furthermore, the event has been redesigned as a condensed program and will no longer run as a full week-long series of activities.
Despite the shorter format, the SUG has promised a vibrant and engaging experience for all students, affectionately known as Malabites and Malabresses. The lineup is reported to include a diverse array of activities aimed at inspiring, entertaining, and engaging the student body, ranging from intellectual symposia to social gatherings.
In her announcement, Hon. Ekong called for a massive turnout, stating, “I urge every Malabite and Malabress to come out in their numbers, participate in the activities, and show the world why UNICAL is the home of the articulate and the vibrant.”
The Students’ Week is a hallmark event on the UNICAL calendar, celebrating student life, talent, and intellectual vitality. This year’s compact edition is poised to deliver a memorable experience within its revised timeframe.
Signed:
Hon. Bernice Ekong
