UNICROSS notice on implementation of CBT for selected GST courses

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has announced the phased implementation of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for selected general year-one courses for the First Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

In an internal memorandum released on 19th February 2026 by the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Stella-Maris Aki Okey, the decision follows approval by the University Senate at its 121st Regular Meeting. While Senate had approved CBT for all General Year One courses, management opted for a phased rollout due to infrastructural constraints.

According to the statement, the CBT examinations will initially cover specific GST/GSS courses, including Communication in English, Philosophy and Logic, Introduction to Computer Science, and Peace and Conflict Resolution. Selected general courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are also included.

The university noted that it is currently transitioning from the BMAS to the CCMAS programme structure. As a result, students from the 17 to 22 sets must register using the old four-digit BMAS course codes, while the 23, 24, and 25 sets are to register with the new three-digit CCMAS codes. For overlapping courses, examination questions will be identical for both groups.

In preparation for the CBT exams, all course lecturers handling the affected courses have been directed to submit their Continuous Assessment (CA) scores to the Directorate of Examinations and Results by 20th March 2026. Additionally, lecturers are required to submit a question bank of 500 objective-style questions per course, properly formatted with five options and one correct answer, by 15th March 2026.
