UNICROSS SUG update on matriculation ceremony
The Students' Union Government (SUG) of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has moved to allay fears among the student community, especially freshers, confirming that the matriculation ceremony for the new academic session has not been cancelled.
In a press release issued by the SUG leadership, it was clarified that preparations for the event are ongoing and that a new date will be announced in due course by the university authorities.
The Union explained that the recent issuance of registration numbers to newly admitted students is a standard administrative procedure. This step is intended to allow fresh students to complete their course registration and academic documentation without delays while awaiting the formal matriculation ceremony.
Addressing concerns about financial malpractice, the SUG issued a strong warning to students to remain vigilant against extortionists. The Union stated that no individual or group is authorized to demand payment in exchange for matriculation numbers or any related academic privileges.
"Matriculation processes remain strictly institutional and do not require unauthorized payments," the statement read. Students have been advised to report any persons demanding illegal fees to the appropriate authorities immediately.
The SUG also encouraged students to take advantage of available financial aid opportunities, such as the NELFUND application, to support their academic journey.
The Union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students' interests and ensuring a smooth academic experience for all.
