UNICROSS SUG warns students against paying unapproved portal charges

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has directed students to refrain from making any payments on the university portal, following the appearance of certain financial charges that have not been approved by the student leadership.

In an official notice dated December 20, 2025, and addressed to all students of the institution, the SUG stated that the charges currently reflecting on the students’ portal were neither approved nor deliberated upon with the duly recognized student leadership.

According to the statement, the attention of the SUG was drawn to the recent opening of the university portal with various financial obligations displayed, prompting concerns among students. The union emphasized that, in line with its mandate to protect the welfare, rights, and interests of students, no student should be compelled to pay charges that lack proper consultation and approval.

The SUG therefore advised all students not to make any payment on the portal until a final resolution is reached between the university management and the Students’ Union leadership. It further described any attempt to enforce unapproved charges as a breach of due process that could result in undue hardship for students.

Additionally, the union formally requested the university management to close the portal until resumption, noting that students are currently on break and that keeping the portal open without student leadership consensus could escalate tension within the university community.

The statement reassured students that the SUG leadership is actively engaging university management through peaceful, constructive, and transparent dialogue to achieve a fair resolution that balances students’ welfare with the administrative responsibilities of the institution.

Students were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and patient while discussions are ongoing, with the assurance that all official updates will be communicated through appropriate SUG channels.
