UNIUYO Student Union issues directive on regulation of Social Events

The Students’ Union of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), through the Office of the Director of Socials, has issued a memorandum aimed at regulating student social events both within and outside the university environment.

According to the memorandum dated April 21, 2026, the directive follows concerns that several social events were organized during the first semester across faculties, departments, and series without proper consultation, approval, or coordination with the Office of the Director of Socials.

The union noted that such actions undermine the university’s structure and regulatory framework, while also posing risks related to security, accountability, and effective event management.

In line with directives from the university management, all social activities—whether held within or outside the institution—must now be conducted strictly under the knowledge, approval, and established guidelines of the Office of the Director of Socials.

Key Guidelines

  • No individual, group, faculty, department, or series is permitted to organize any social event without prior notification and approval.
  • All event proposals must comply with laid-down regulations and be properly documented.
  • Failure to comply will attract disciplinary actions as determined by the university authorities.

The directive also mandates all Faculty and Departmental Directors of Socials to ensure strict compliance and proper coordination with the central office moving forward.

The Students’ Union emphasized that the measure is necessary to ensure orderliness, safety, and uniformity in the planning and execution of student-related social activities across the university.

The memorandum was signed by the Director of Socials, Amaechina Nnaemeka Franklin.
