UNIUYO SUG invites students to Media & Public Relations Workshop

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Uyo has officially announced a Media and Public Relations Workshop aimed at equipping students and media enthusiasts with essential communication skills in the digital age.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Director of Information and Public Relations, the workshop is scheduled to hold on **Wednesday, 14th May 2026**, by **10:00 AM** at the **Barth Ebong Annex Campus**.

The event is open to media lovers, media personnel, aspiring Directors of Information, social media handlers, and activists, offering a platform to explore modern communication strategies and the impact of social media on personal and institutional reputation.

Themed “Social Media, Free Speech, and the University Image: Finding the Balance in the Digital Age,” the workshop will feature a keynote session, panel discussions, interactive engagements, and a debate session. The debate will focus on the topic: “Free speech on social media should be regulated".

Organizers say the initiative is designed to promote responsible communication, digital expression, and awareness of how online activities shape public perception.

As part of activities lined up for the day, a **raffle draw** will be held, with prizes including food items and gadgets. Interested participants are required to purchase raffle tickets at a token fee of **₦500**. Payment is to be made via KUDA MFB, after which proof of payment should be submitted to the provided contact to receive a raffle code.

Participants have been advised to keep their raffle codes secure, as only those physically present at the event will be eligible to claim prizes.

The Director of Information and Public Relations, **Godwin Patrick**, encouraged all students and interested individuals to attend, describing the workshop as an opportunity to engage, learn, and contribute meaningfully to media discourse within and beyond the university community.

The workshop is expected to draw a wide audience and foster impactful conversations on media responsibility in today’s fast-evolving digital landscape.
