UNIUYO Students Union issues guidelines on use of school buses

The Students’ Union of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), through the Office of the Director of Transport, has released an official notification outlining new procedures for the use of school buses for student-related activities.

According to the notice, the directive was introduced to enhance safety, improve coordination, and ensure proper security management during student movements. The Students’ Union emphasized that all uses of school buses—including mini buses and 18-seater buses—must now receive prior approval from the Office of the Director of Transport.

The Union stated that any individual, group, association, or faculty intending to use school transportation is required to notify the office ahead of time. This is to allow for adequate documentation, scheduling, and security clearance in line with established transport and security protocols.

Requests for school bus usage can be made through direct contact with the Office of the Director of Transport via WhatsApp or phone calls. Alternatively, students and groups may channel their requests through faculty-level officials. Faculties without a designated Director of Transport have been advised to route requests through any of the following officers: the Faculty or Departmental President, Director of Protocol, or the Special Adviser to the President on Protocol. These officers are expected to promptly relay such requests to the Students’ Union transport office for necessary action.

The Students’ Union explained that the directive is aimed at promoting orderliness, accountability, and the overall safety of students, while strengthening collaboration with security stakeholders on campus. The Union further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that student safety remains a top priority.

Students and members of the university community have been urged to cooperate with the new guidelines to help create a safer and more organized campus environment.
