UNIJOS enforces the use of ID cards within the campus
The University of Jos has announced that starting from the first week of March 2026, all staff and students will be required to visibly wear their identification cards to gain entry into the university campuses.
In an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor through the Security Division, Acting Chief Security Officer Agama Solomon Tangni emphasized that green tags will be used for staff, while blue tags are designated for students. Newly admitted students will be temporarily allowed access using their school fees receipts until their official ID cards are produced.
The directive follows concerns that some faculties are yet to obtain their ID card tags from the ICT Directorate. Deans and Heads of Department have been urged to submit comprehensive staff lists to ICT for the collection of the tags, which are being provided free of charge.
According to the statement, the measure is part of efforts to "curb crime and criminality within the University." The ICT Directorate is currently engaged in a marathon production exercise to ensure all members of the university community are captured before the enforcement deadline.
"Let us do the needful and play our part in ensuring that University of Jos is a safe haven and a conducive citadel of learning," the statement read.
