UNIPORT announces Applications for 2026/2027 TAGDev Scholarship Programme

The University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) has officially announced a call for applications for the 2026/2027 academic session under the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) Programme.

The initiative, implemented by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and several African universities, aims to empower young Africans through education in agriculture and related fields.

The TAGDev 2.0 Programme is a 10-year initiative (2023–2033) designed to strengthen universities and technical institutions across Africa. It focuses on equipping students with skills to drive inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient agricultural transformation.

The scholarship is targeted at academically capable but economically disadvantaged students. Female candidates, refugees, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligible Courses

Undergraduate Programmes

  • B.Sc. Agricultural Economics
  • B.Sc. Agribusiness Management
  • B.Sc. Agricultural Extension and Development Studies
  • B.Sc. Animal Science
  • B.Sc. Food Science and Nutrition

Postgraduate Programmes

  • M.Sc. Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences
  • M.Sc. Agribusiness Management
  • M.Sc. Crop Science

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be Nigerian citizens or refugees residing in Nigeria
  • Come from economically disadvantaged or marginalized communities
  • Be under 25 years (undergraduate) or 30 years (master’s)
  • Meet UniPort admission requirements
  • Demonstrate interest in agriculture, leadership, and community transformation

Scholarship Benefits

The TAGDev scholarship is fully funded and covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation and living expenses
  • Research and training costs
  • Laptop provision
  • Internship and field attachments
  • Entrepreneurship training

Application Process

The application process involves three stages:

  1. Complete the online Google application form
  2. Apply for admission through JAMB (for undergraduate) or UniPort School of Graduate Studies (for postgraduate)
  3. Apply for the scholarship via the RUFORUM Information Management System (RIMS)

Applicants are required to submit relevant documents including academic certificates, identification, and proof of eligibility.
