UNIPORT notice to students on prohibition of the use of the basketball court

The University of Port Harcourt has issued a stern directive prohibiting all students from using the university’s basketball court and its surrounding areas with immediate effect.

In an official memorandum dated March 29, 2026, with reference number UPH/SA/DEN/098 and signed by Prof. Wokocha Chima Chibuike, the Dean of Student Affairs, the university declared the basketball court and its environs out of bounds for any form of activity.

β€œThis is to inform all students of University of Port Harcourt that the basketball court and all areas within it are hereby declared out of bounds for any form of activity, with immediate effect. Any individual or group of persons found engaging in any activity within this area, at any time, will be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate security agencies.”

The memorandum further advised all students to strictly comply with the directive to avoid any disciplinary action. The reason for the sudden prohibition was not stated in the memo.

Students have been warned that violators will face immediate arrest and handover to security agencies.

The directive was copied to key university officials including the Vice Chancellor, DVC Admin, DVC Academics, DVC R&D, Director of Sports Institute, Registrar, Chief Security Officer (CSO), and the Student Union Government (SUG).
