The Wiki Loves Earth 2024 in Nigeria invites you to participate in an international photography competition aimed at promoting natural heritage sites worldwide through Wikimedia projects.

Join the Competition

This is the fifth time Nigeria is participating in this contest, which will run from 1 June to 31 July 2024. In previous editions, participants from Nigeria uploaded over 1,000 quality images. Everyone is encouraged to join, whether as a photographer, organisational volunteer, or both.

Prizes

The competition offers exciting prizes for the best entries:

• 1st Prize: 150,000 Naira
• 2nd Prize: 100,000 Naira
• 3rd Prize: 50,000 Naira

Additional prizes include:

• Best 2 Images: From each participating fan club and hub
• Highest Number of Contributions: From each participating fan club and hub
• Top 10 Contributors: By the number of photographs, rewarded with a Wiki Loves Earth T-shirt

Eligibility

To participate, ensure your entries meet these criteria:

• Original Work: All entries must be your own work, without manipulation of original images, and without visible watermarks.
• Upload Period: Photos must be uploaded between 1 June and 31 July 2024.
• Licensing: All photos must be licensed under the CC BY-SA license.
• Active Email: Participants must have an active email for contact purposes.
• Captions and Description: Required for each photo.
• Categories: Add relevant categories to your photos for easier discovery.
• No Duplicates: Avoid uploading duplicate images.

Judging Criteria

The jury will evaluate entries based on the following:

• Technical Quality: Sharpness, use of light, perspective, etc.
• Originality
• Usefulness for Wikipedia

How to Apply

Follow these steps to join the competition:

1. Sign In or Create an Account: On Wikimedia Commons.
2. Name Your Photos Well
3. Upload Your Photos: Using the Upload Button.
4. Share Your Success: On social media with the hashtags #WLENG and #WLE2024.
5. Wait for Results
